Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company issued a notice on Tuesday that an emergency shutdown of the NCT‑Kigoro‑Gigiri‑Kabete pipeline will interrupt water supply for 24 hours across several Nairobi estates.
The shutdown follows the Athi Water Works Development Authority’s decision to halt the line for urgent repairs, though the company did not disclose exact start and end times.
Affected neighbourhoods include Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani and Kibera, as well as Riverside, Parklands, Nairobi West, Ngara and areas around Wilson Airport, UNEP headquarters and the US Embassy.
In Westlands and adjacent zones, the outage will impact sections of Waiyaki Way, Upper Brookside, General Mathenge Road, Parklands Road and Highridge.
Kibera residents in Lindi, Kambi Muru, Silanga, parts of Gatwekera, Kibera Plaza, Kianda, Ayany, Mwembeni and Makongeni will also lose water for the duration.
Additional locations listed include Jamhuri II, Park 1 and 2, Southlands, Makini, areas around KEBS and NEMA, and estates such as Monali, Midland, Quick Estate, Hamayun Estate, Heshima Gardens and Space Apartments.
Northern Nairobi zones like City Park, Railway Quarters, City Park Market, Jamhuri High School vicinity, Kinanda Valley, Kihingo Estate and Magnolia are also on the list of affected areas.
The water company urged customers in the impacted areas to use the remaining water sparingly while repairs are underway, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused.
