Early on the day of the incident, Sonia Sonnie, who runs the Nairobi‑based electronics retailer Dora Technology, received a distressed phone call from an employee who had discovered that the shop had been broken into.

The employee reported that thieves removed nearly all of the store’s inventory, leaving behind only a monitor and a mouse.

Dora Technology, which opened its doors earlier this year, suffered a setback that includes the loss of laptops and other essential electronic equipment.

Instead of checking WhatsApp messages first, Sonnie went straight to the shop’s CCTV footage to verify what had happened.

Following the robbery, Sonnie said she was met with online criticism, with some commenters questioning whether the break‑in actually occurred and others accusing her of seeking publicity.

She expressed frustration at the dismissive reactions, noting that sympathy messages cannot replace the tangible losses or the personal sacrifices she invested in building the business.

Despite the setback, Sonnie affirmed that the robbery will not end her entrepreneurial journey and remains hopeful about rebuilding the venture with support from friends, family and well‑wishers.
