On 26 October 2026 the Nairobi City County Government published a notice stating its intention to commence preparation of a local physical and land‑use development plan for the Westlands zone.
The undertaking is anchored in Section 47 of the Physical and Land Use Planning Act, 2019, which the county cited as the statutory authority for the planning process.
The draft planning area is bounded by major landmarks such as Waiyaki Way, the Kiambu County border, Getathuru River, Karura Forest, Mathare River, Thika Road, Murang’a Road, Prof Wangari Maathai Road and Kirichwa River, with precise coordinate points defining the perimeter.
Key objectives outlined in the notice include identifying development challenges, assessing infrastructure gaps, establishing clear zoning guidelines and protecting heritage, cultural and environmental assets.
The county also aims to align the Westlands framework with County, Metropolitan and National development plans to ensure coherence with broader planning goals.
Residents, businesses and other stakeholders are invited to submit written comments on the draft plan within 21 days of the notice, with the deadline set for 16 November 2026.
Submissions should be addressed to the County Executive Committee Member for Built Environment and Urban Planning at P.O. Box 30075‑00100, Nairobi.
