A multi‑vehicle accident occurred at Salgaa along the Nakuru‑Eldoret Highway on Thursday night, leaving several vehicles badly damaged and bringing traffic to a standstill on the busy corridor.
Video from the site showed wrecked and overturned vehicles, with motorists forced to stop just before the affected stretch of road.
Police officers were on the scene to assist those involved and to direct traffic, although authorities had not yet confirmed the exact number of vehicles, the cause of the crash, or any casualties.
The Salgaa area has long been regarded as a road‑safety black spot, with a 2009 oil‑tanker overturn that killed 140 people cited as its deadliest incident.
Recent attention to Salgaa follows a fatal crash near Simba Cement on 22 August, which also involved multiple vehicles and caused heavy traffic disruption on the same highway.
In a separate collision on Thursday night, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Simon Mburu was involved in a crash at Kwa Wanjiku Centre on the Nyahururu‑Kinamba Road, where his vehicle struck a tractor that later overturned.
Reports after the Kwa Wanjiku incident indicated that Mburu was safe, but police had not confirmed his condition or that of other occupants, and a second collision was reported moments later as officers worked to control congestion.
