The Board of Management of Muhoroni Township Primary and Junior School in Kisumu County formally opposed the abrupt transfer of its headteacher, Kenneth Omware Odhiambo, by filing a petition with the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) County Educational Director.
The petition, received on July 13, 2026, argues that the timing is problematic because the school is preparing for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).
The Anglican Church of Kenya’s Diocese of Maseno East also wrote to the TSC County Director on July 16, 2026, requesting that Odhiambo be retained for an additional three years, citing his contributions to school development.
The TSC Sub‑County Director for Muhoroni, Cyphus Nyamisoa Kiriama, acknowledged receipt of the petition and confirmed it was forwarded to the County Director for further direction.
Kiriama noted that the outgoing headteacher has an appeal pending at the county office and instructed that normal learning continue while the appeals committee deliberates.
The board also objected to the appointment of a replacement headteacher from a neighbouring school, describing the incoming officer as harsh, violent and lacking academic credentials.
In response, the incoming headteacher’s legal representatives, Bruce Odeny and Co., issued a defamation notice demanding a cease‑and‑desist, an apology and liability admission within 14 days, threatening legal action if unmet.
