Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya Musau has become a focal point in Ukambani politics, with supporters drawing parallels between his current clout and that of the late Joseph Mulu Mutisya, a noted Kamba power broker during the Moi era.

Kawaya, a two‑term parliamentarian since 2013, is described as a key mobiliser for President William Ruto’s agenda, acting as a conduit between the Kamba community and the national government.

Supporters claim his network, together with former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, has helped more than 500 Kamba individuals secure positions across government agencies, ranging from principal secretaries to teachers.

Kawaya’s electoral strength in Mwala, where he has retained his seat across two terms despite the long‑standing influence of the Wiper party, reinforces his status as a potential mobiliser for the ruling United Democratic Alliance.

His role in the 2022 general election is credited by supporters with delivering roughly 30 percent of President Ruto’s vote share in Ukambani, underscoring his capacity to sway regional outcomes.

Beyond politics, Kawaya’s background includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Information Engineering from the University of Nairobi, a digital fabrication course at MIT, and experience as a university lecturer and CEO of Tekno International Ltd.

In Parliament, he has served on the Departmental Committee on Energy since his first term and was elected chair of the National Assembly’s Committee on Environment, Forestry & Mining in March 2025, reflecting an expanding legislative portfolio.

In December 2024, President Ruto awarded Kawaya the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for public service, a recognition that further cements his standing within the national leadership.
