Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) unveiled its commercial subsidiary, MEDS Devane Company Limited (MDCL), during its 40th‑anniversary ceremony in Nairobi on 29 September 2026.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale presided over the launch, which also introduced the MEDS‑Strathmore Supply Chain Academy.

MDCL is slated to start business on 1 November 2026, targeting private hospitals, pharmacies, clinics and laboratories throughout Kenya.

The new firm will supply a broad portfolio that includes medicines, consumables, diagnostics, laboratory products, infection‑prevention solutions, orthopaedic implants and specialised equipment, all backed by traceable supply‑chain systems.

MEDS CEO Dr Wycliffe Nandama, who will serve as MDCL’s acting general manager, said the company is purpose‑built around the needs of private providers.

The launch highlighted MEDS’ growth from a 30‑product warehouse in 1986 to a catalogue of over 2,000 health products serving more than 10,000 clients across all 47 counties.

MEDS Chair Rev Benard Owuor noted that the subsidiary addresses a clear gap in the private‑sector supply chain, while also naming the company after the founder Joan Devane.

While the initial focus is the Kenyan market, MEDS plans to expand MDCL into selected East African countries in the longer term.

Cabinet Secretary Duale praised MEDS’ quality‑assurance systems, noting that 876 faith‑based facilities hold active contracts with the Social Health Authority, with KSh 29.8 billion paid out against KSh 41.1 billion in claims.
