Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital announced an internal investigation into the death of a mother who was under maternity care at the facility.
The hospital’s Medical Superintendent confirmed the death in a statement issued on 18 October 2026 and said a multidisciplinary clinical review had been launched in line with standard maternal‑health quality assurance procedures.
The review will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, with any follow‑up action to be guided by the findings of the clinical panel.
Hospital management reiterated that every maternal death is a grave concern and reaffirmed its commitment to safe, timely, respectful and quality care for all patients.
Condolences were offered to the bereaved family, and the hospital appealed for privacy and dignity as the family mourns their loss.
The facility highlighted its ongoing focus on patient safety, professional standards and continuous service improvement.
Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has previously faced scrutiny over maternal and newborn deaths, including a March 2026 case involving a pregnant woman who died after a tooth extraction and another incident where a 26‑year‑old from Njiru lost her unborn child at 38 weeks.
Those earlier cases drew attention from Nairobi County officials and the wider community to concerns about maternal safety and the need for timely, quality maternity care.
