Justice Noel Inziani of Machakos High Court ordered Safaricom and Airtel to furnish the prosecution with call data, SMS and voice records, as well as key documents, within a 21‑day period.
The directive was issued on Thursday to allow the court to analyse the information and complete forensic analysis of CCTV footage already presented in the hearing.
Justice Inziani also suspended the cross‑examination of three witnesses, including former Mlolongo OCS Peter Mugambi, to give investigators time to process the newly‑requested data.
The next court date is set for 19 November, when the judge will review progress on the investigations and determine further steps.
Justice Inziani warned parties directly connected to the case, as well as any other individuals, to refrain from commenting publicly about the victim, Jimmy Mutava, unless such remarks aid in locating him.
Background to Mutava’s disappearance
Jimmy Mutava, a businessman from Mlolongo, vanished on 27 July 2026 during a meeting with former OCS Peter Mugambi, after being dropped off at an entertainment venue by a white vehicle.
CCTV footage shows Mutava using two mobile phones at 8:15 p.m., followed by his exit from the venue at 8:20 p.m., after which witnesses allege he was abducted.
The footage also contradicts an earlier account from the officer present, who told Mutava’s family he had stepped away to use the washroom at the time of the disappearance.
