Brian Otieno, founder of Rorik‑Asilic Infotech Group Limited, launched KulaMtaani in June 2025 as a food‑commerce platform that consolidates order handling, point‑of‑sale, delivery coordination and supplier procurement into a single system.

The service targets small‑scale food operators who currently rely on WhatsApp, phone calls, notebooks and spreadsheets, which Otieno says creates unnecessary complexity and risks missed orders.

Since launch, KulaMtaani has engaged with more than 70 food businesses, mainly in Nairobi’s Kimbo and Kiambu areas, to validate the product and refine its features.

Otieno emphasizes that the platform is not a delivery marketplace but an operating system that supports digital storefronts, order management, POS, delivery logistics, procurement and reporting, allowing each business model to use only the tools it needs.

Development has been largely self‑funded, with Otieno balancing product building, merchant onboarding and infrastructure costs, a challenge he describes as the biggest hurdle to scaling the platform.

A early hosting outage caused loss of the initial business database, forcing the team to rebuild from scratch and highlighting the need for reliable infrastructure.

Looking ahead, Otieno aims to demonstrate repeat usage, establish a sustainable customer‑acquisition process and expand KulaMtaani beyond its current markets to become a trusted operating platform for food businesses across Kenya and eventually other African countries.
