Around 200 Mama Mboga and other small‑scale traders in Nandi County will gain access to upgraded trading facilities after the handover of the Maraba Modern Market, part of a KSh1.5 billion programme to construct 15 modern markets across the county.

President William Ruto officiated the market’s opening during a development tour of Tinderet Constituency, noting that the new space offers traders a modern, decent and dignified environment for business.

The Maraba facility also includes an ICT hub intended to equip young people with digital skills and expand access to online business and e‑commerce opportunities.

In the same tour, the President launched the KSh55 million Tinderet Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project, which aims to connect roughly 4,000 households to the grid, complementing a wider KSh2.1 billion programme targeting 23,000 homes across Nandi County.

Ruto also announced a KSh20 billion investment to build 350 km of roads in the county, including the 24‑km Maraba‑Kebeneti and Timboroa‑Kopere stretches and a 17‑km Labuiywo‑Kitechegaa/Kapkoros‑Koisagat road costing KSh1.3 billion.

The combined market upgrades, electricity expansion and road construction are projected to strengthen local trade, improve household welfare and reduce practical barriers to economic participation for rural communities.
