More than 600 households in Kiboko Twaandu, Makindu Ward, are set to receive improved water access through a Ksh10 million distribution project funded by the Financing Locally‑Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme.

The scheme will install a nine‑kilometre gravity‑fed pipeline that runs from Mbiuni through Mauluni and Malivini to Nthia, extending the existing supply network.

Three water kiosks will be refurbished and a new communal water point constructed at Mauluni to serve nearby residents.

The project builds on an earlier partnership between Makueni County and World Vision that delivered a 250,000‑litre storage tank and a booster station, laying the groundwork for the current expansion.

By bringing water closer to homes, the initiative aims to reduce the distance residents travel for the resource, easing household burdens and supporting domestic and community activities.

The effort aligns with Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr’s last‑mile water connectivity agenda, which seeks to extend services to more households across Makueni County.

Once fully operational, the expanded distribution network is expected to improve water access for the targeted 600‑plus households.

The FLLoCA programme underpins the project, supporting locally led climate action and enhancing community resilience to water‑related impacts of climate change.
