The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) seized 529 electronic items, estimated at Sh13 million, from a residential apartment in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, after an intelligence‑led operation.

The haul comprised 358 laptops, nine iPad Mini tablets and 162 assorted accessories, including 150 Bluetooth devices, six laptop chargers and six laptop batteries.

Among the laptops were 269 Dell units, 83 HP machines and six Lenovo computers, while the iPads were all iPad Mini models.

KRA said the operation targeted suspected customs tax evasion and smuggling of electronic goods, based on intelligence that a foreign national was using the apartment as an illegal warehouse.

The authority indicated that the goods are believed to have entered Kenya without payment of the required taxes and duties, although investigations have not yet confirmed their source.

KRA highlighted a growing trend of residential premises being used to store commercial goods, warning that such practices can disadvantage compliant traders who meet customs obligations.

The seized electronics will remain in KRA custody while investigations determine the parties involved and any outstanding customs or tax liabilities.

KRA urged traders and the public to report suspected smuggling or tax evasion through its iWhistle platform and other reporting channels.
