KMPDU secretary‑general Dr Davji Atellah met community health promoters (CHPs) in Mugumoini, listening to concerns about delayed payments and inadequate facilitation, and received their endorsement for his 2027 Lang’ata parliamentary bid.

Atellah framed his campaign around healthcare, education and economic empowerment, citing his union record of securing salary arrears, promotions and improved employment terms for doctors.

He formally declared his intention to contest the Lang’ata seat after incumbent MP Phelix Odiwuor announced he would not seek re‑election and would instead run for the Nairobi Senate.

Atellah has not disclosed which political party ticket he will use for the 2027 election.

KMPDU achievements under Atellah’s leadership

Atellah retained his KMPDU secretary‑general post unopposed in the union’s April 2026 elections, securing a five‑year term to continue advocacy for doctors’ welfare.

The union reported that in 2025, 5,186 doctors received long‑standing salary arrears, more than 3,100 doctors were promoted across counties and ministries, and over 1,000 doctors were converted to permanent, pensionable positions.

Additional gains included approval of 633 postgraduate training fees and the employment of hundreds of doctors in the public sector.
