The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) issued an official addendum listing the approved Grade 11 textbooks and literary texts for the Competency‑Based Curriculum senior school programme.

English literature titles on the list include Henrik Ibsen’s *The Master Builder*, Austin Bukenya’s *The Bible from Africa* and Margaret Ogola’s *The River and the Source*, together with novels such as Mark Haddon's *The Curious Incident* and Remi Bamisaye’s *A Concise of Hope*.

Three English language textbooks are approved for Grade 11: *Perfect Planet English Learner’s Book* and its Teacher’s Guide (One Planet) and the *Hummingbird English Learner’s Book* authored by a team of Kenyan writers.

The Kiswahili literature section (Fasihi ya Kiswahili) contains fifteen titles, featuring drama works by Bernared Opilo, K.W. Wamitila and Jeff Mandila, and novels by authors such as Assumpta K. Matei, Alphonce Ndugu and Paul Ngugiwa Muturi.

KICD also approved eight Kiswahili language textbooks for Grade 9 (Kidato cha 3), all authored by K.W. Wamitila and published by firms including Mentor, Longhorn, Oxford University Press, Mwanzo Educational Resources, Access, One Planet and Spotlight.

KICD council chairman Simon Gicharu called the release a landmark in Kenya’s education reform journey and urged schools and parents to rely exclusively on the official list when procuring learning materials.

Director and CEO Charles Ochieng’ Ong’ondo explained that the evaluation process drew on input from subject experts, university academics and practising teachers to uphold quality standards for the CBC rollout.
