On 2 November 2026, Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi told supporters that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua asked for half of the government’s portfolio while negotiating with the Linda Mwananchi movement at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri.

Kibagendi posted on social media that he questioned Gachagua’s right to set such terms for the wider opposition, describing the demand as an attempt to dominate power‑sharing discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.

The gathering also included Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other senior opposition figures, according to the MP’s account of the talks.

Kibagendi recalled a 2023 development meeting where Gachagua reportedly asked why opposition MPs demanded national funding while opposing the administration, and suggested he seek infrastructure support from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He said he left that 2023 session after fellow MPs, including Silvanus Osoro, tried to persuade him to stay.

Kibagendi further accused Gachagua of trying to sideline several opposition leaders, naming former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, former Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as examples.

Responding to Gachagua’s recent interview on Inooro FM, Kibagendi rejected the claim that the former deputy president could form a government solely with Senator Sifuna and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, warning that excluding other stakeholders would weaken opposition cohesion.

He stressed that unity across all opposition parties is essential to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 election and cautioned that internal power struggles could erode the movement’s momentum.
