Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Türkiye to expand health partnership, focusing on specialist training, technology transfer and knowledge exchange as part of the country’s Universal Health Coverage agenda.
The MoU was discussed during a meeting with Türkiye’s outgoing ambassador, Subutay Yüksel, where both sides identified additional cooperation areas beyond training.
Under the agreement, Türkiye will assist Kenya in building six Uwezo Hospitals and Kenya‑Türkiye Centres for Children’s Ability and Women’s Health, slated for Nairobi, Nandi, Taita Taveta, Isiolo, Homa Bay and Uasin Gishu.
The new centres aim to improve access to specialised maternal and paediatric services in counties where such care is currently limited.
The cooperation builds on existing Turkish assistance through TİKA, which has previously delivered medical equipment, infrastructure aid and professional training to Kenya.
Duale also highlighted that the partnership will cover pandemic preparedness, financing, local production of medical goods, research, innovation and climate‑resilient health systems.
He concluded that drawing on Türkiye’s experience will support Kenya’s push for stronger primary care, digital health, local manufacturing and overall health system strengthening.
