Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, has been appointed chair of Task Force 4 under the Africa CDC‑led Continental Immunisation Forum.
The appointment was confirmed in a letter dated 15 October 2026 signed by Africa CDC Director‑General Jean Kaseya, who tasked the new chair with focusing on country alignment, partnerships and speeding up immunisation programme delivery.
Task Force 4 operates within the Continental Immunisation Forum, an Africa‑driven platform created to enhance political leadership, accountability, investment and coordinated action for the Continental Immunisation Strategy 2026‑2030.
In this role, Muthoni will work with governments and development partners to align immunisation programmes with each country’s health priorities and needs.
She will also draw on implementation experience from member states to tackle vaccine‑delivery challenges, strengthen partnerships and ensure accountability for commitments under the continental strategy.
The appointment letter notes that the chair will collaborate with African Union member states and partners while respecting national ownership of immunisation programmes and existing AU governance structures.
Jean Kaseya congratulated Muthoni, saying her position places her at the centre of efforts to improve cooperation and vaccine delivery across the continent.
Task Force 4 will convene at the inaugural Continental Immunisation Forum scheduled for 23‑26 November 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, alongside the International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA).
Muthoni’s new appointment follows her election on 5 May 2026 as Chairperson of the African Permanent and Principal Secretaries for Health, adding to her growing continental leadership profile.
