U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took Kenyan national Stanley Robert Kungu Muthee into custody on Monday, October 26, 2026, after a traffic stop in Seattle, citing an overstay of his non‑immigrant visa.

Muthee, who was wearing a Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (WA DCYF) jacket at the time, confirmed his employment with the agency during the arrest.

Federal records indicate he entered the United States in June 2019 on a B‑2 tourist visa and remained after the visa expired, constituting an unlawful presence.

WA DCYF verified that Muthee had been employed by the department since August 2024 and that he submitted a USCIS work‑authorization number at hiring, which the agency says had no expiration date.

ICE’s statement described Muthee as an “illegal alien” who had no business working in a government agency responsible for child welfare, reflecting the agency’s stance on immigration compliance.

The detention follows a recent high‑profile enforcement action in which the Department of Homeland Security deported former NFL player Daniel Ogongo Adongo, also a Kenyan national, after a series of criminal convictions.
