Police in the Indian state of Bihar rescued a Kenyan woman and two other women during coordinated raids on two hotels in Danapur, on the outskirts of Patna.
The raids were carried out after authorities received information about alleged illegal activities at the premises, prompting a team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Ajit Kumar to act.
At the first hotel, officers identified a foreign national believed to be a Kenyan citizen, seizing her passport copy, mobile phones and hotel records to verify her identity.
The second hotel yielded two additional women, along with further mobile phones and registration documents, which police are examining for links to trafficking networks.
Managers of both hotels were arrested as investigators seek to determine whether the establishments were being used to facilitate illegal prostitution or broader criminal activity.
A case has been filed under India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, with authorities reviewing electronic devices and records to trace recruiters and transporters.
Investigators are also probing whether the two hotels are part of a larger network operating beyond Patna, reflecting earlier reports of Kenyan women trafficked to India under false job promises.
Background on Kenyan trafficking cases in India
Previous incidents include a 2023 rescue of five Kenyan women in Goa, where Kenyan nationals were accused of running an international trafficking ring, and a 2024 case in Chennai involving a Kenyan woman deceived with hospitality‑sector job offers.
Kenyan authorities have warned that hundreds of citizens have been repatriated from India after facing various forms of exploitation, often after responding to unverified overseas job offers.
