Mubarak Muyika, originally from Bungoma County, began his entrepreneurial journey while studying at Friends School Kamusinga, where he founded Hype Century Enterprises.

The student‑run venture quickly scaled to serve Kenya’s growing digital market, providing affordable web hosting and domain registration for small and medium‑size enterprises.

In 2013, Hype Century Enterprises was sold to Wemps Telecoms in a six‑figure transaction, cementing Muyika’s reputation as a young tech entrepreneur.

He subsequently launched Zagace, a cloud‑based business‑management platform that integrates accounting, inventory, HR and supply‑chain functions for African firms.

After being admitted to Harvard University, Muyika chose to remain in the technology sector, citing rapid growth of his businesses and a focus on product development as reasons for declining the offer.

His decision reflects a broader debate on formal education versus hands‑on entrepreneurship in the tech industry, a conversation also associated with figures like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

Muyika later relocated to Silicon Valley, gaining exposure to established tech networks, engineering practices and venture‑capital ecosystems while maintaining ties to African markets.

His work has been recognised internationally, including a spot on Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 list, highlighting his role in Africa’s expanding software and digital‑services sector.

Beyond product development, Muyika engages in mentorship and advocacy, contributing to the growth of Africa’s technology ecosystem.
