Kenya’s Ministry of Health announced that the sixth Ebola patient has recovered and been discharged after testing negative for the Bundibugyo virus disease.
The discharge follows the first imported case recorded on 6 October 2026, marking 32 days since that initial detection.
One patient remains in treatment and is under close medical monitoring.
No new Ebola cases have been recorded for 18 consecutive days, the period beginning on 19 October 2026.
The total confirmed cases stay at nine, all linked to the first imported case.
Sixty‑six contacts have completed the 21‑day monitoring period and returned home, while the remaining fifty‑two are expected to finish quarantine by 11 November 2026.
The ministry credited the outcome to strict adherence to protocols that include early case detection, isolation, contact tracing, protection of health workers and safe burial practices.
Kenya will be declared Ebola‑free once the last patient leaves the treatment centre virus‑free and the 42‑day observation period ends.
Travel screening continues at all 26 entry points, with over 760 000 travelers screened to date, and emergency operations centres and rapid response teams remain on alert in every county.
Travellers are urged to complete the electronic surveillance form on the UHAI chatbot before arrival, declare any symptoms and report illness within 21 days of entry.
The ministry affirmed ongoing collaboration with neighbouring states, the East African Community and Africa CDC to safeguard the wider region.
