Kenya Power and Lighting Company announced that on Friday, Oct 9, scheduled power interruptions will affect five counties.

In Nairobi, two zones – Muthaiga and Utalii – will lose supply between 9 am and 5 pm, impacting hospitals, schools, university campuses and several corporate headquarters.

The utility also listed Kitui, Tharaka Nithi, Murang’a and Nyeri counties as having outages on the same day.

Specific sites in Kitui include Ikutha Sub‑county Hospital, Mutomo Mission Hospital, Mutomo Level 4 Hospital and a range of markets and villages such as Kasaala, Ikutha Market and Ndauni.

In Tharaka Nithi, the notice named rural settlements including Magenka, Ndangoni, Mukuuni, Itugururu and Kamwimbi among the areas to experience cuts.

Murang’a outages will affect Pundamilia Market, Ciumbu Market and Mihango Dispensary Hospital.

Nyeri customers in locations such as Kiganjo Coffee Plantation, Chania Village, Chania Secondary School, Kirimara Coffee Plantation and Baptist Secondary School will also be without power.

Kenya Power issued the notice on Thursday, Oct 8, citing routine maintenance, network upgrades, new customer connections and road‑work as the reasons for the interruptions.

Residents and institutions in all listed zones have been advised to make necessary preparations ahead of the scheduled interruptions.
