The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) issued a five‑day outlook on Saturday, Oct 31, projecting moderate to heavy rainfall across large parts of the country through Wednesday, Nov 4.
Coastal counties will see showers, with Mombasa and Lamu expected to receive rain on Saturday and Wednesday, while Kwale and Kilifi are slated for rain on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
In the inland region, Nairobi is forecast to have moderate afternoon showers on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and Kiambu County will experience similar conditions on those days plus Saturday afternoon.
Central Kenya’s Nyeri will receive moderate showers on Saturday and Tuesday, while Murang’a is set for rain on Saturday and Wednesday.
Western and Rift Valley counties—including Bomet, Kericho, Kakamega, Kisii and others—are expected to have afternoon showers with thunderstorms on all five days.
Southeastern counties such as Makueni and Machakos will see moderate showers on Saturday, with additional rain on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The forecast arrives amid heightened El Niño concerns, prompting weather warnings and preparedness measures as the October‑December short‑rain season begins.
Hours before the bulletin, overnight downpours caused flash floods and traffic jams in Nairobi and neighbouring Kiambu, Kajiado and Machakos, water‑logging drains and blocking major routes such as Waiyaki Way, Thika Road, Kiambu Road and Mombasa Road.
