The Kenya Meteorological Department’s weekly outlook for 22‑29 October predicts rainfall in 46 counties, including parts of Nairobi and Marsabit, and warns that isolated storms could trigger flash floods in several regions.

High‑risk zones highlighted by the department include parts of Mandera, Wajir, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale, where isolated storms are most likely to produce sudden flooding.

Rainfall distribution will vary, with some areas receiving significantly more precipitation than others during the forecast period, according to the service.

Residents in the identified storm‑prone counties are urged to exercise extreme caution near flood‑prone locations, rivers and other waterways, and to avoid walking or driving through flooded roads, bridges or streams.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to stay vigilant for road flooding, reduce speed, keep a safe following distance and use headlights when visibility is poor.

The department also cautions against sheltering under trees or near tall isolated structures during thunderstorms because of the heightened risk of lightning strikes.

People living on steep slopes, unstable hillsides or landslide‑prone areas should watch for warning signs such as ground cracks, leaning trees, sudden water‑flow changes or unusual ground movement.

Farmers in rain‑receiving zones are encouraged to take advantage of the increased soil moisture to support crop growth.
