Kenya and Azerbaijan have agreed to broaden economic cooperation, targeting trade, green energy, agriculture, technology and sustainable urban development as priority areas.
Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev, said President William Ruto’s May 2026 visit to Baku reinforced relations and opened avenues for new joint projects.
During the 13th World Urban Forum, President Ruto held bilateral talks with President Ilham Aliyev on energy, trade, renewable power and affordable housing, laying groundwork for future collaboration.
Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs identified agriculture, energy, ICT, tourism, healthcare, manufacturing and construction as sectors with high potential for expanded cooperation.
Both sides are exploring ways to increase market access for Kenyan agricultural exports and to attract Azerbaijani investment in strategic sectors such as renewable energy and technology.
Ambassador Hajiyev emphasized that the partnership aims to go beyond government‑to‑government ties, creating opportunities for businesses, young entrepreneurs and investors in both countries.
While current trade volumes remain modest, the two nations plan to boost business‑to‑business engagement and open new export channels for Kenyan products.
The expanding relationship reflects Kenya’s broader strategy to diversify export destinations and strengthen economic links beyond its traditional markets.
