Construction of the Kathageri‑Kigumo‑Kanyuambora road is providing direct employment for residents of Runyenjes and surrounding towns, according to local reports.

Dennis Murimi, a Runyenjes resident who trained at Kilimambogo Highways Building and Technology Institute, moved from an attachment student role in 2022 to casual work operating various road‑building equipment for the contractor.

Murimi says the project has also opened positions for other young people, allowing them to earn income while gaining practical construction experience.

Local farmers anticipate that the improved link between Kathageri, Kigumo and Kanyuambora will shorten travel time for maize, cassava and sugarcane to market, enhancing profitability.

Boda‑boda operators and other transport businesses expect higher passenger volumes and reduced vehicle wear once the road is fully tarmacked, easing movement along the corridor.

The community views the road’s eventual completion as a catalyst for lasting growth in agriculture, transport, small enterprises and access to essential services.

For workers like Murimi, the immediate benefit is tangible employment and skill development, illustrating how infrastructure projects can deliver short‑term jobs while laying groundwork for longer‑term economic activity.
