The High Commission of India in Nairobi issued a formal travel advisory on 14 October 2026, reminding Indian nationals that Kenya now requires mandatory inbound travel health insurance for all foreign visitors.

Kenya's policy applies to arrivals on or after 5 October 2026 and covers stays of less than 12 months, meaning any Indian traveller planning a visit after that date must secure the prescribed cover before departure.

The advisory stresses that existing international medical or travel insurance policies will not be accepted as a substitute; travellers must purchase the specific insurance product recognised under Kenya's new framework.

First‑time applicants for a Kenyan Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) must register their insurance via the portal www.etakenya.go.ke, while those already holding a valid eTA should use https://insurance.ecitizen.go.ke/ for the insurance registration.

The High Commission advised Indian travellers to complete the insurance application well ahead of their flight to avoid entry complications, noting that the requirement is part of Kenya's broader effort to strengthen healthcare financing for visitors.

The advisory was shared on the official India‑in‑Kenya and Somalia X (formerly Twitter) account, urging nationals to review the full notice for any exemptions and detailed procedures before making travel arrangements.
