The IEBC announced that nine candidates have been shortlisted for the Commission Secretary/CEO vacancy, with NACADA chief Dr. Anthony Omerikwa and ex‑EACC CEO Halakhe Waqo among the names.
Applications were invited on 28 July 2026 and the deadline closed on 11 August 2026, drawing 304 valid submissions.
The shortlist reflects IEBC’s emphasis on inclusion, aiming for gender balance, regional representation and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
The nine shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on 12 and 13 November 2026, with the venue to be communicated individually.
Interviewees must present original identity documents, academic and professional certificates, supporting testimonials, and clearance letters from the EACC, DCI, KRA, HELB and a registered credit reference bureau.
The IEBC warned that any form of canvassing will result in automatic disqualification of a candidate.
Acting CEO Ruth Kulundu, who took office on 5 August 2026 after the February departure of former CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan, will oversee the selection process.
The commission reiterated that it is an equal‑opportunity employer, selecting candidates on merit through a transparent competition open to all eligible applicants.
