The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) stated that it deployed voter registration kits to Kenyatta University as part of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) drive being carried out across Kenya.

The commission explained that such kits are placed in strategic locations when operational considerations require it, and the university was identified as one of those sites.

Voter transfer services remain limited to the IEBC’s 290 constituency offices, Huduma Centres and the Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.

Only newly registered voters receive acknowledgement slips; those seeking to transfer their voting station do not, as their details are already recorded in the voters’ register.

The IEBC emphasized that its role is to facilitate registration of eligible Kenyans and does not involve directing voters to specific polling stations.

Viral video raises questions about the university registration exercise

A video circulating on social media showed individuals questioning the conduct of the voter registration exercise at Kenyatta University, prompting the IEBC to issue its clarification.

IEBC response and forthcoming actions

The commission said it is taking the allegations raised in the clip seriously and is cooperating with relevant government agencies to investigate any possible wrongdoing.

It also urged the public to refrain from interfering with its processes as it continues its mandate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
