When you relocate within Kenya, Kenya Power (KPLC) recommends linking your phone number and email to the meter at your new address to prevent billing mix‑ups and missed notifications.
If the contact details remain attached to the old meter, you may continue receiving payment reminders for a post‑paid account you no longer occupy, or inadvertently settle bills incurred by the new tenant.
Outdated records also mean you miss real‑time SMS or email alerts about scheduled maintenance, emergency outages, token purchases and tariff changes, leaving you unaware of power issues at your new home.
Kenya Power allows the update to be done remotely; an in‑person visit to a branch or banking hall is not required.
To request a change, email customercare@kplc.co.ke with the subject line “Request for Contact Details Update (Meter Number)” and include your full legal name, a scanned ID, the old and new meter numbers, your active phone and email, and proof of occupancy such as a lease or title deed.
Prepaid meter users should also update their records on Kenya Power’s digital platforms to keep token purchase histories intact, either by dialing *977# on their mobile phone or using the MyPower app available for Android and iOS.
