Applicants registered under the Affordable Housing Programme can now alter the unit they initially selected, according to the State Department of Housing and Urban Planning.
To make a change, users must log into the Boma Yangu portal, navigate to the "Preferred House" section, click "View" on the current choice and select "Remove".
After removing the existing preference, the applicant can browse the list of available units, pick a new unit of any size—studio, one‑bedroom, or three‑bedroom—and set it as the new preferred house.
The same steps allow users to change the location of their preferred unit, for example moving from a Nairobi project to a Kisumu development.
The portal’s flexibility is intended to accommodate new project launches and shifts in applicants’ financial or family circumstances.
Eligibility to receive a unit still requires a minimum deposit of five percent of the unit’s total cost, payable before allocation, with the balance payable in monthly installments or in full for immediate ownership.
It remains unclear whether changes can be made after a unit has been formally allocated; the guidance currently applies to the registration and saving phases.
