The Milimani High Court ordered the Inspector General of Police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Officer Commanding Station at Ruai to bring Tanzanian activist Twaha Mwaipaya before the court, alive or deceased.

Justice Alexander Muteti issued the directions on Friday, 30 October, setting a hearing for Monday, 2 November at 11 a.m. after a habeas corpus application was filed by human‑rights group VOCAL Africa.

The judge instructed the respondents to either appear personally or through appointed officers and to produce the person or body of Twaha Mwaipaya, dead or alive, before the court.

In addition, the court demanded the original detention warrant and an explanation why the activist should not be released immediately.

VOCAL Africa’s chief executive Hussein Khalid welcomed the order, noting it followed the organisation’s habeas corpus petition filed with other human‑rights groups.

Khalid reiterated that the court’s directive requires the IG, DCI and Ruai OCS to produce Mwaipaya on 2 November at 11 a.m.

The activist was reported missing after armed individuals allegedly abducted him on Sunday, 25 October, while he was travelling by taxi to visit friends in Kamulu, on Nairobi’s outskirts.
