The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) released a detailed guide on Monday, October 19, for students who have transferred between institutions through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
Students must log into the Higher Education Funding (HEF) Student Portal with their existing credentials and select either the “Update Institutions” or “My Account” option from the main menu.
Within the portal, the “Manage Transfers” feature should be chosen to reflect the new placement, allowing the entry of the updated registration number, course code and institution name.
HELB stresses that the update must be completed during the loan allocation stage, as changes cannot be made once the disbursement process begins.
The board also reminded beneficiaries to verify the receipt of funds by checking the batch numbers published in its October 12 notice, which listed seven batches that have already been processed.
Students can confirm the credit of their loans directly through their personal bank account numbers, as indicated in the same notice.
HELB additionally announced a lump‑sum repayment incentive, offering up to an 80 % waiver on outstanding penalties for borrowers who settle their loans in one payment.
