The Ministry of Health confirmed that every public Level 2‑4 health facility – a total of 6,427 centres – has already migrated from the Social Health Authority Provider Portal to the Health Management Information System (HMIS).
Four public Level 5 hospitals have completed the switch, while 23 others are at various stages; the government expects all Level 5 facilities to be fully transitioned by 30 October 2026.
Among the 518 contracted faith‑based facilities, 38 have finished the migration and the remainder are slated to finish by the same 30 October deadline.
National Level 6 hospitals, including Kenyatta National Hospital and Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, are expected to complete the transition by early next week, with all other Level 6 sites also targeted for completion by 30 October.
Private providers that already operate HMIS platforms are undergoing certification under the Digital Health Act; to date, 28 platforms have been approved by the Digital Health Agency.
The Digital Health Agency will run Rapid Results Initiatives throughout October to give technical assistance to private facilities and accelerate their compliance, a move announced by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
The Ministry assured the public that the migration will not interrupt service delivery; patients will continue to receive care regardless of a facility’s transition status.
A meeting with health‑sector association representatives is scheduled for 2 October 2026 to finalise a facility‑by‑facility transition plan and address any outstanding requirements.
