On 2 October, the Ministry of Health released a statement clarifying the ongoing move of health providers from the Social Health Authority (SHA) provider portal to the Health Management Information System (HMIS).
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced that facilities that have not yet completed the migration will receive an additional month to do so, extending the deadline beyond the original schedule.
Duale urged any lagging hospitals to speed up the transition and to contact the Digital Health Agency for technical assistance where required.
The ministry also stressed that patients will not be turned away at any facility while the migration is underway.
Under the new arrangement, a hospital’s HMIS will serve as the primary system for managing care and will exchange data directly with SHA and other health‑sector platforms, removing the need for duplicate data entry.
The ministry highlighted expected gains such as shorter waiting times, smoother continuity of care and faster processing of admissions, consultations, billing and claims.
Automatic capture of information at the point of care is projected to raise data quality and cut errors that arise from manual re‑entry.
For SHA and other insurers, tighter integration is meant to improve verification, curb fraud and prevent duplicate or erroneous claims.
