Dr Ouma Oluga, Principal Secretary for Medical Services, urged tighter accountability, improved coordination and accelerated implementation of the Healthcare IT Digitisation Programme, saying these steps are needed to turn digital health investments into better services for Kenyans.
Oluga made the remarks while chairing the programme’s steering committee at Afya House, which brought together the Safaricom Consortium, the Digital Health Authority, the Social Health Authority, the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority and other implementing agencies to review progress under the Universal Health Coverage Digital Transformation Programme.
The meeting assessed implementation status and identified priority areas for strengthening oversight, improving collaboration and ensuring timely delivery of agreed milestones.
Oluga outlined four key priority areas for the next phase: strengthening accountability among subcontractors, improving tracking and visibility of project investments, accelerating rollout of ICT infrastructure and systems while ensuring their stability, and guaranteeing that investments deliver tangible benefits to facilities, health workers and the public.
He stressed that close collaboration among technical teams, project managers and implementing agencies is essential to sustain progress, strengthen oversight and meet milestones.
Oluga reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to work with all partners to maximise the value of public investments and ensure the programme delivers on its objectives, linking it to the government’s Taifa Care agenda and the broader goal of Universal Health Coverage.
