Gulf Energy and Oildrop Africa together have announced 68 vacancies for the South Lokichar oil project in Turkana County, covering technical, engineering and support functions.

Gulf Energy, the primary block developer, is responsible for 61 of the positions, which span 39 distinct job categories ranging from senior drilling engineers to graduate trainees and health specialists.

Oildrop Africa, a petroleum‑sector recruitment firm, listed seven additional roles, six of which are engineering posts and one a health expert.

The advertised roles include senior drilling engineers, production engineers, operations superintendents, as well as finance, human resources and logistics support positions.

Graduate trainee openings are also featured, indicating an effort to develop local capacity within the project.

The recruitment drive aligns with the project's target to begin commercial oil production on 1 December 2026 at an initial rate of 20,000 barrels per day.

Gulf Energy has already leased and imported a specialised GW70 drilling rig as it prepares to drill development wells.

Stakeholders plan to scale output to 50,000 barrels per day in later phases, positioning the field as a key contributor to Kenya's oil‑export ambitions.
