Governor Kenneth Lusaka addressed the Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation Summit 2026 in Nairobi, noting the event’s role in reviewing progress and accelerating reforms across Kenya’s agricultural value chains.

As chair of the Council of Governors’ Agriculture Committee, Lusaka said the recent interventions have improved farmers’ access to affordable inputs and laid a stronger foundation for increased food production.

He highlighted that fertilizer prices have fallen from KSh7,500 to KSh2,000 per tonne, while certified seed costs have also been reduced, creating a cushion for farmers and an enabling environment for higher yields.

According to Lusaka, cheaper farm inputs are critical to lowering production costs, boosting farm‑level productivity and enhancing both household and national food security.

He emphasized that agriculture is a devolved function, and that county governments, through the Council of Governors, are working closely with the national government to translate policies into tangible benefits for grassroots farmers.

The three‑day summit brought together national and county officials, farmers, private‑sector players and development partners to chart a coordinated path toward transforming Kenya’s agriculture and food systems.
