A video posted by matatu investor Lexy Montana shows George Ruto’s flagship 25‑seater ‘Mood’ matatu in a heavily stripped‑down condition at a Nairobi garage, just over a year after its launch.
Mechanics are working on the vehicle’s front section, with the front bumper visibly worn, the splitter partially detached and the grille completely removed to allow access to internal components.
Fleet driver Kinara, attached to George’s transport fleet, was seen at the garage monitoring the progress of the renovation.
The matatu, unveiled on 18 July 2025 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, is valued at roughly KSh 14 million and features premium bucket seats, individual cup holders, charging ports, a DJ mixing deck, air‑conditioning, rooftop solar panels and a customised number plate reportedly costing about KSh 1 million.
‘Mood’ operates on the Embakasi route under George Ruto’s 98 Sacco and forms part of the broader Raptor Family fleet that includes other themed matatus such as Money Fest, Matrix and Baba Yaga.
The vehicle has previously required garage attention, first for minor touch‑ups after its launch when crowds caused superficial damage, and later after a rear‑end collision in Eldoret in September 2025 that left no casualties.
