George Ruto’s 98 Sacco unveiled six new 33‑seat customised minibuses on 19 September 2026 in Nairobi’s Central Business District, bringing the total fleet to 17 vehicles.

The new minibuses feature the classic Nairobi nganya style, with graffiti, bucket seats, custom rims, LED lighting and sound systems; the flagship unit, Mood, includes built‑in DJ decks.

Each customised Isuzu 33‑seater costs upwards of KSh7 million, putting the combined value of the six additions at over KSh42 million.

Robin Ondieki, a driver with 15 years of experience, now operates one of the newly added minibuses and said the fleet has opened doors for youth employment.

Ondieki highlighted smooth day‑to‑day operations since the launch, noting the vehicles run mainly on routes serving Embakasi and Ongata Rongai.

Industry estimates suggest a premium nganya matatu can generate roughly KSh500,000 in monthly net revenue; applied across all 17 vehicles, the fleet could theoretically earn about KSh8.5 million per month, though actual earnings have not been confirmed.

The fleet’s growth follows an earlier setback when a 98 Sacco vehicle, Money Fest, was impounded by the National Transport and Safety Authority in January 2025 over reckless‑driving allegations.

George Ruto, who started the venture in 2025 with a single matatu, has said his passion for the sector dates back to high school, and he plans to add six more vehicles pending final approvals.
