George Kimutai Ruto’s 98 SACCO operates customised nganya‑style matatus on Nairobi CBD to Ongata Rongai and Embakasi corridors, with a current fleet of 17 operational vehicles.
The operation recently unveiled six new 33‑seater Isuzu minibuses in the city centre as part of an expansion, each valued at roughly KSh 7 million.
Among the flagship vehicles is a 25‑seater called “Mood”, equipped with solar‑powered electronics and DJ gear, estimated at KSh 14 million, while the 33‑seater “Zoro” serving Rongai is valued at about KSh 8.7 million.
The matatus feature neon‑green and dark wraps, elaborate graffiti, LED lighting, 65‑inch screens, DJ decks, sound systems, mood lighting, branded seats and USB charging ports for passengers.
Staff—including stage marshals, drivers and other personnel—report that the venture has generated employment opportunities for youth in areas such as Kiserian and has introduced greater structure to the informal transport sector.
Employees interviewed on the streets expressed gratitude toward President William Ruto’s son, crediting the SACCO with improving livelihoods along its routes.
The business, also known as 98 Logistics, evolved from an earlier venture called Raptor Family before registering as a fully compliant SACCO operating on competitive Nairobi corridors.
Two of the named matatus—“Money Fest” and “Ambush”—have faced temporary compliance holds by the National Transport and Safety Authority, highlighting regulatory scrutiny within the sector.
Official fares for Route 125, covering Nairobi, Ongata Rongai and Kiserian, have been published by TUKO, though the article does not list the exact amounts.
