A young Kenyan recorded himself walking up to two traffic police officers who had pulled over a matatu by the roadside, positioning himself directly in front of the officers as they attended the vehicle.
He told the matatu driver not to hand over any cash to the officers, a directive that provoked an angry reaction from one of the police officers standing by the driver’s window.
When the officer turned on the young man, the activist began to walk away, after which the second officer gave chase, prompting the activist to shout back defiantly as he moved away.
In the footage the activist explained that his fight against traffic corruption is personal, citing the death of his uncle in a road accident allegedly caused by a driver who was waved through after paying off officers.
He appealed directly to the Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (EACC) to intervene in the traffic department and urged the public to share the video with the agency.
The clip quickly spread online, reigniting public debate about matatu culture, roadside bribery and the role ordinary citizens can play in holding security forces to account.
