Forestry Principal Secretary Gitonga Mugambi told the National Assembly House Implementation Committee that the department is ready to work with residents occupying Kenya Forest Service land in Lang’ata to secure ownership of their homes.

Mugambi and Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko suggested that petitioners withdraw their pending court case to enable a joint survey of the disputed parcel, which would involve all affected parties.

The committee was reviewing a parliamentary report on alleged demolitions and repossession of land within Lang’ata Constituency, Nairobi County, where the dispute has persisted for more than three decades.

The contested area traces back to late‑1990s changes to Ngong Forest boundaries, including land parcel L.R. No. 23256 that was earmarked for residential development.

Residents maintain they acquired the properties through official government processes and have lived there for decades, while Parliament in 2025 ordered a halt to eviction threats pending a Cabinet decision.

Following the committee meeting, Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala, who chairs the committee, instructed the Lands Permanent Secretary to appear before Parliament within four weeks to provide an update on the proposals.
