A drone strike hit a dormitory at Kordofan University in El Obeid, Sudan, on Thursday, killing five civilians and injuring 47, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.
The medical aid group attributed the attack to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and described it as part of a pattern of violations against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
In a statement, the Sudan Doctors Network condemned the strike, urging the United Nations and humanitarian agencies to denounce attacks on civilian facilities, support medical response for the injured, and pursue accountability.
The group highlighted that targeting student residences and educational institutions breaches international humanitarian law and endangers civilian lives.
The incident follows recent accusations by North Kordofan authorities that the RSF carried out drone strikes on civilian sites in El Obeid, including attacks on Sports City and Shikan University College earlier in the week.
The strike is part of a broader increase in drone attacks across Sudan, with the UN Human Rights Office noting a rise in long‑range drone use by both the RSF and Sudanese army, affecting civilian areas far from frontlines.
The UN has reported that drone strikes in El Obeid have damaged essential services, disrupting electricity, fuel, water, healthcare and transport for residents.
Across the wider Kordofan region, intensified fighting between the RSF and Sudanese army has led to increased civilian casualties, with the OHCHR recording at least 1,120 civilian deaths from drone attacks nationwide between January and June, 80% of all civilian deaths documented in that period.
