Equity Afya opened its second standalone community pharmacy on Monday at Bruce House, opposite Cardinal Otunga Plaza, marking the first outlet owned and operated by a franchisee.

The franchise model is designed to let trained health professionals and alumni of the Equity Leadership Program establish sustainable pharmacy businesses while improving access to essential medicines.

Dr. Dennis Ogolla, Managing Director of Equity Afya, said the initiative aims to create an ecosystem where health entrepreneurs can thrive and patients can rely on consistent, affordable care.

The Bruce House pharmacy stocks over‑the‑counter and prescription medicines, baby care items, nutrition and wellness products, and provides basic health screening and wellness guidance.

Chief Pharmacist Dr. Gohil Jaimini noted that the standalone pharmacy complements Equity Afya’s existing clinic network by bringing medicines closer to where people live and work, while supporting sustainable delivery models.

Franchisee Dr. Benson Musyoka, a Health Systems Strengthening Specialist, emphasized that access to quality medicines completes the patient’s care journey, ensuring prescriptions are filled safely and with proper guidance.

The new outlet follows Equity Afya’s first franchise pharmacy at Britam Towers in Upper Hill and aligns with the group’s longer‑term goal of establishing 1,000 outpatient centres and 1,000 standalone pharmacies across East and Central Africa.

Equity Afya’s broader network already includes 156 medical centres in Kenya and five in the Democratic Republic of Congo, each with in‑house pharmacies, expanding the reach of its health services.
