Equitax Africa Solutions Limited, a Kenyan‑registered software developer, is targeting microfinance institutions, SACCOs and fintech businesses with a suite of digital lending and core‑banking systems.

The platforms cover the full loan lifecycle – from application and approval through disbursement, repayment tracking and portfolio monitoring – and are built on open‑source core‑banking frameworks Apache Fineract and Mifos X.

Clients can choose a cloud‑based Software‑as‑a‑Service model or install the solution on‑premise, allowing flexibility to match operational and regulatory preferences.

To reach borrowers without smartphones, Equitax incorporates SMS, USSD and web portals, enabling loan applications, balance checks and repayment reminders via basic mobile phones.

The system integrates with Safaricom’s M‑Pay platform, automating both Customer‑to‑Business (C2B) repayments through lenders’ Paybill numbers and Business‑to‑Customer (B2C) loan disbursements to borrowers’ mobile‑money accounts.

Equitax stresses that it does not hold customer funds or operate a mobile‑money wallet; it solely provides the software that records and reconciles transactions on licensed platforms.

According to the firm, its solutions are already deployed in more than five counties – Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Kisumu – serving institutions that manage individual, group and SME lending portfolios.

CEO Jackson Maina Ndirangu says the technology is designed to improve operational efficiency while expanding access to credit for households and businesses across Kenya.

Equitax also aims to scale its offering beyond Kenya, seeking opportunities to support digital lending initiatives throughout the wider African market.
