The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) released its September‑October price review on 14 September, confirming that the maximum allowed pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene are unchanged for the next 30 days.

Effective midnight on 15 September, the retail price in Nairobi is Ksh214.03 per litre for Super Petrol, Ksh217.86 for Diesel and Ksh191.38 for Kerosene.

In Mombasa, the same products are priced at Ksh210.87 for Super Petrol, Ksh214.58 for Diesel and Ksh188.09 for Kerosene per litre.

How the prices are calculated

EPRA’s calculation incorporates Value Added Tax, excise duty adjustments for inflation, and other statutory levies as stipulated in the VAT Act 2013, the Finance Act 2023 and related legal notices.

The tax component of the landed cost amounts to Ksh73.86 per litre for Super Petrol, Ksh64.07 for Diesel and Ksh50.41 for Kerosene, with the remaining price covering distribution, storage, retailer margins and any subsidies.

Cost trends behind the unchanged prices

Although the retail price of Super Petrol stayed flat, its landed cost fell by 7.87 percent, while the landed cost of diesel rose 11.86 percent and kerosene increased 9.71 percent, reflecting divergent market pressures.

Regulatory focus and consumer advice

EPRA reiterated its commitment to fair competition and consumer protection, and reminded households and businesses to purchase LPG only from licensed dealers, as per its August safety advisory.
