The collapse of a building in Eastleigh has left traders along the busy streets counting losses as customers stay away.
Rescue teams are now on their sixth day, and no one has been recovered from the rubble since Saturday, heightening anxiety among families and traders.
Trader James Musembi said business has deteriorated sharply because shoppers fear another building could collapse, leaving his stall empty even when open.
Purity Wambui, who runs a small business on Second Avenue, said her daily earnings fell from more than Sh1,000 to as low as Sh500 since the incident.
Clothes trader Nancy Mburu estimated a loss of at least Sh10,000 in sales over six days, describing the slowdown as severe after seeing a cloud of dust and closing her shop.
Muhyiddin Abdi appealed for one‑month rent assistance, saying traders have no work, closed shops and are losing morale.
Traders also questioned the procedures used to approve building construction, urging authorities to ensure projects meet safety standards before work begins.
Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, after visiting the site, warned that delays could reduce the chances of rescuing those believed to be trapped and called for additional equipment and personnel from national and county governments.
