The Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission announced that it has recovered a public parcel in Kakamega County worth roughly Ksh40 million, which includes three houses previously used for official accommodation.

The site covers about 1.05 acres and is located in the Milimani neighbourhood of Kakamega town, directly adjoining the State Lodge.

According to the commission, the land is owned by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development but was mistakenly allotted to a private party despite its reservation for government housing projects.

The recovery follows a consent agreement endorsed by Environment and Land Court Justice Annet Nyukuri on 22 September, in which the registered owner consented to relinquish his claim.

The court order also instructed the Chief Land Registrar to cancel the lease entries recorded in the individual's name, enabling the government to re‑register the land under its title.

EACC indicated that it is moving to annul the unlawful title and complete the transfer of the property to the government's land register.

Investigations showed that the land had been earmarked and partially developed for government housing before a letter of allotment was issued to the private individual on 10 December 1992.

Although a lease was later entered in the individual's name on 4 June 1993, the three houses continued to function as official residences and remained listed in the Government Building Register.
